June Lake Loop, affectionally and appropriately known as the “Switzerland of California”, features stunning alpine lakes and gorgeous mountain vistas. Its signature horseshoe-shaped canyon was formed by glacial activity and rivals nearby Yosemite for its sheer beauty.
The Sierra Crest skyline is highlighted by Carson Peak and June Mountain. There are many hiking trails for day hikes, and access to backcountry exploration. Access tp the Pacific Crest Trail and the John Muir Trail are only 3 miles as the crow flies from The Loop.
June Lake Loop is renowned for the string of four pristine lakes – June Lake, Gull Lake, Sliver Lake and Grant Lake – with easy access from Highway 158. These lakes provide opportunities for a variety of activities for residents and visitors alike. There are many more alpine lakes accessible by well maintained trail systems.
